I was told it was the motherboard so I sent it in and just got my RMA today but it's still having the same problem. I tried the paperclip test on my PSU and it was working. I've tried it with and without the graphics card but the same happens. I tried clearing CMOS but no avail. I feel bad because my friends and family chipped in to get me this for my birthday and I can't get it working.

Here are my specs:
Gigabyte GA-Z97-HD3 Rev 2.0
EVGA Geforce GTX 970
Intel i5-4590
G.SKILL Sniper Series 2x 4GB
XFX 550 Watt PSU

Hello,

We're sorry you are having issues with your rig. Here's what you need to do.

Take out everything, it it on top of a cardboard box (with antistatic bag underneath) and hook up the minimal bare essentials.

Surge protector> PSU> Motherboard > 1 stick of ram > CPU > Cpu Cooler > Graphics card > monitor. then make sure nothing is grounding improperly and turn it on. it should work, if it doesn't, try a different stick of ram in a different slot. If it doesnt work, what does it do? turns off after a second? It could be alot of things if so, but DOA parts are pretty uncommon and setup issues are the reigning king of computers not turning on for their first wake up. XFX Support

Thanks for the very speedy reply XFX however I've actually tried it with only the essentials and the same thing happens. I'm pretty sure it's the motherboard though because I looked through the Newegg reviews of that particular model and there are quite a few people saying the same thing is happening to them with Gigabyte replying to each of them saying to get in touch.
To everybody else I'll post an update after I get in touch with them.

I understand. Are you sure you have both the 8pin and 24 pin power connector hooked up? can you try any of the other components in different systems? Everything is prone to failure so its very possible its the motherboard, but thats the 2nd one... the odds of it being faulty twice are very unlikely.

Late reply but I've been busy. The problem was indeed the motherboard which still had bent pins. I didn't want to deal with a support thing again so I went out and bought a MSI Z97S and it's been smooth sailing!
