Hello,
I have a Dell Precision T1600. About two years ago I added a SSD and OS, so it dual booted. No problems since. Today, I cloned the original hard drive that came with the computer to a Samsung 850 EVO. No problem yet. Switched the new 850 EVO SSD for the original drive. Reconnected both the 500mb Samsung SSD, and the new 850 and turned it on. However, am not seeing the option of which hard drive to select. Any assistance is appreciated. Thank You, Thomas

What was the original os? What was the new os on the ssd?
If you are dual booting with linux, you will need to reconfigure grub. If you can boot to the ssd on which the second os is installed (if it is linux), run sudo grub-update and see if that gets things back together.

HI,

Thank You for your time. The original hard drive was a Seagate 2TB Sata.... with a windows 7 OS. The SSD that weas added 2 years earlier was a Samsung 500MB SSD, and of course the new one is a Samsung SSD 1TB. So currently both installed SSDs have W7,. Should I be hitting one of the keys on the key board to do something? I do not know what the sudo grub update stuff is, I know just enough to have gotten in trouble LOL
Thank You Again...

What was the original os on the Dell? Do you want to keep that os and data?

What os did you put on the first (500mb) ssd? Do you want to keep that os and data?

Do you have the original os/recovery disc for the dell?

Do you have the legitimate disc/key for the second os?

On the first SSD (500mbs) I put W7 on it, and yes want to keep and use everything on it.

No do not have os/recovery disc for anything.

I know I have the original w7 disc and registration key somewhere.

Not sure it this helps or not. Before I installed the Samsung 850 Evo SSD, I cloned everything that was on the original sata drive onto the new SSD drive.

Thank You Again.

PS: IWhen I hit the F12 Key, I can see a screen with the following on it.

Legacy Boot:
Samsung SSD 850 EVO 1TB
CD/DVD/CD-RW Drive
CD/DVD/CD-RW Drive
Samsung SSD 840 EVO 500GB
Other Options
Bios Set Up
Diagnostics

When I select Samsung SSD 840 EVO 500 GB and hit enter, it takes me to a black screen with the cursor blinking at the top left of it, and nothing else happens.

Also when I simply boot up normally using the newest ssd, I can see the samsung 840 500gb drive and all the files on it,

What I want to be able to do is to start up the computer and select which drive to use.

Hope that helps.

Thomas
