Computer I built about a year ago. Owner says it has failed to start but then did later but now won't start at all.

I went to look at it and it appeared dead as a hammer. Brought it back to my shop. plugged it in, hit the button and it started perfectly. Have restarted it... perfect. Shut down and then restarted... perfect.

Any ideas???

Agreed, take the system back and use a multi-meter to test the outlet for fluctuations or loss of power. Other possibility is a failing power supply, power button on the case, or power button mother board connector.

Not the case in this instance. I checked that out. Wondering now if perhaps a problem with the power cable to the computer or the outlet in the power strip. Using a different power cable here in my shop. But thanks much for the reply.

BTW, I'm not a professional. Just build computer from time to time for friends for the cost of parts. Enjoy doing it. But I'm 81 now and going to have to quit crawling around under desks before much longer.

No, haven't checked that, but good idea, I will. Just today getting around to really checking it out and I'll check all connections. Thanks much for the reply. You guys have helped me in the past and I really appreciate it.

Followup post:

Returned computer to client. I had shut it down and started it again around a dozen times over two days and it started every time. Opened it up and checked all the connections. Blew the dust out and closed it up and took it back.

Also checked the 110v outlet in the house, the power strip and the computer power cable. No problems found. It's working fine for her now too, so just waiting to see if I hear from the lady again. Fingers crossed.

Thanks guys for the quick replies when I posted. As usual, much appreciated. Cheers!
