i used my pass port external hard drive on my pc for music. I deleted the music to get copies of new songs from a mac. the only thing was copied was the names of the songs and showing 0kb file size and I cant play on my pc. I saved that list from the hard drive that I received from the mac to my pc. can I format my hard drive and recover the songs that I saved to my pc after I reformat the drive to mac format and also, can I format my external hard drive to mac from my pc. I have 1tb.

Most likely your drive isn't formatted in a way that the mac can read, so nothing was actually added. Only other possibility is that the mac corrupted the file record of the disk or the disk itself died at some point. If the file record was corrupted, you might be able to recover file contents using recovery software like recuva, but the names will likely be lost.

Your best bet is to format the disk (losing all data in the process, so make sure you have a backup) and use FAT32 with the default allocation size, and try the file transfer again. Make sure you move the disk to the trash (which in Apple's messed up world means "eject") before you remove it.

I don't have mac, my friend tried to copy his files to my hard drive and he lives far from me but, will reformat. and try to transfer the files saved to the hard drive again from my pc. or, ill just have him make another transfer when he come thru again and have my hard drive ready in mac format. thing about that is, I use a Toshiba window 8. half pc and the other for mac.

Do NOT use a mac format (HFS+), instead use FAT32 for maximum compatibility. Better yet, if you have a DVD burner use that instead, since that is an ISO standard.
