Hey guys, first off I want to say how excited I am to be able to get the name Haden, as it's normally taken! ;)

On a serious note, I have a budget of $250.00 and I can't go more. It's mainly for games such as Empire Total War, GTA V, Fallout 4, etc. I need an upgrade as my current card is getting old and I need something nicer for higher FPS.

I would like to go NVIDIA since based on what I know NVIDIA is the better option, and AMD is for more budget based? (Please give me your thoughts!)

Please tell me if you need my PC specs, and how to get them. Thanks guys.

Commence fanboy flame war!

Both companies have high and low end solutions. Personally, I like Nvidia products as they seem to get driver updates more frequently and I've never had a problem with one. Your PC specs would be very helpful. At least the processor speed/type, amount of RAM, and motherboard make/model. Also, what resolution is your monitor?

You can get the processor by right clicking on Computer in Windows Explorer and choosing properties. In the window that appears, near the bottom, you should find these. To get the motherboard information, hold the Windows key and...

wmic baseboard get product,Manufacturer,version,serialnumber

Press enter.

Oops made your answer the solution. >_>

Anyways, I have 8GB of ram, a 60HZ AOC 1920x1080 (native) resolution.

My current card is AMD.

8GB of RAM.

My motherboard is ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 (tell me if this is wrong as in it doesnt exist, I got it from the box, so I'm not sure if I got the right info.)
Part number (motherboard, just to make sure) 90-MIBJP0-G0AAY0MZ

What do you think? I've always known NVIDIA as the better option, and I'm not really satisfied with the AMD preformance. But it could be because I have a cheap graphics card. I'm asking for opinions, not flame wars! :D

Again to me it comes down mostly to Nvidia's driver support. I get a driver update almost monthly with Nvidia and with almost every major title launch there is a driver update to prepare for it. I would go for Nvidia. Be aware though that the 970 with 4 GB of RAM has 3.5 GB of high speed and 500 Mb of lower speed RAM. Personally this has never caused an issue for me but made a huge stink on the internet when it was discovered. I run Skyrim very heavily modded with my 970 and keep 50+ fps at all times on 1080P.

So what do you recommend for this criteria:

-Able to enable Black Bars in games like CounterStrike (on a low res around 1020)
-Can be run for long sessions of gaming without losing speed, or overheating. (up to 12 hours, I sleep or turn off PC at night.)
-Can run games like Fallout 4, Empire Total War, Minecraft (with shaders), GTA V on higher settings, etc.
-Under $250.00 (preferably around 200, but up to 250 if needed)
-Not sure if this is every graphics card, but simply installation (like just screw it into my CPU.)
Thanks. And please do tell me if you recommend anything else.
