I have a small problem...well not sure yet.I'm putting together my new system,i have an ASROCK extreme 6/3.1 usb motherboard with an ULTRA M2 SLOT which says it supports gen3x4(32 gb/s).The reason i got this board was for that slot to run a SAMSUNG 950 PRO that is actually being delivered today.I have my comp mostly together, and im reading the manual for the asrock. Now, it doesnt actually say that you can NOT run the 950 pro in the ultra m2 slot, it says this exactly..................."the ultra m2 socket(m2-1)supports m2 pci express module up to gen3x4(32 gb/s)".It goes on to say...."The m2 SSD(NGFF)socket 3 (m2-2) can accommodate either a m2 sata3 6.0 gb/s module or a m2 PCI express module up to Gen 2x2(10 bg/s).The m2 ssd(NGFF) socket 3 supports SSD drives.

My question is will i be able to run the samsung 950 pro in the m2 ultra slot? I had gotten the recommendation from some helpful folks here on TOMS'.It was the reason i got the board,to be able to take advantage of the 32 gb/s over the other slot i think is only 10 gb/s.

Thank you all who take the time to answer.

Solution

From Samsung 950 Pro Specs (Link):
Interface PCIe 3.0 x4 (up to 32 Gb/s) NVMe 1.1

They are both PCIe 3.0 X4. So they are both compatible.

The Samsung 950 Pro is a "2280" Form Factor (22mm X 80mm). In looking at the Asrock Specs (Link) I was unable to see if the mobo accepted this size SSD.

well, what i was saying is i have 2- m.2 slots...one of them like they are saying is 10 gb/sec,and they refer to that slot as being for the SSD,the other slot is ULTRA M.2,and is capable of 32gb/sec which the 950 pro can handle, but the way they say it as if you are supposed to use the 10gb/sec slot for the SSD and not the ULTRA slot for an SSD.
and my fault,i didnt say the exact mobo,i have the z97-ar version extreme 6/3.1 usb

Kewl beans, thank you YOGI,YA i was seeing that same thing and was thinking it must be compatible....its just the user manual and their wording...makes it seem not possible,on top of that, that slot is superior fast, wouldnt oyu advertise that for an SSD slot? or maybe i got a board/manual that was before th 950 was heard of.....anyways...i just got the 950 pro in the mail about 30 mins ago! I will kep this posted to see if it works.
Thanks again for the help folks
And BTW,ya the 2280 form factor is fine,im good...it accepts them all...2230-2242-2260-2280-22110...well,im saying "all" but i read the most common is the 2280 and 2260...and no clue what others besides these...but i would guess they covered them all...its just the length...they have a set screw,....you just move the screw to your position...women all over are cheering
