Hi i have dual gtx 980s on a msi z87 gd65 gaming mobo with also 16 gb ram. my CPU is an i5 4670k overclocked to 4.3 ghz. i am just wondering if my system is being bottlenecked due to the fact i have 2 very modern powerful cards but a pretty outdated CPU. i only game on my rig but i would like to know if there would be any point to buying like a i7 4790k even though i only game on my rig. cheers

If you're only gaming, that high-end overclocked i5 will most definitely not be bottlenecking your system.

That said, an upgrade to an i7 might give you 1-5fps more in certain CPU heavy games like Total War, but no where near enough of an improvement to warrant a large cash cost.

If you are feeling any bottleneck in some performace, is probably due to your MOBO+CPU combo, and not the CPU itself. But by today stardarts, your system still very good. In your case, if you would think to upgrade, it would be to a X99 (enthusiast level) or wait for the Kaby lake with z170 (Perhaps a MSI Gaming 7 or ASUS Deluxe).

Please, explain to me how his motherboard could cause performance loss in games...
