I was just looking at alternative see if i can prolong my current rig and at same time modernize it abit

I dont use Hardcore gaming... mainly use it for movies/internet/ youtube.. games like Counter strike Zero/
Star Craft Brood wars + maybe i'll one day buy S.C 2 ,

i got this comp since 2010

What is the main purpose of this pc?
If it is for gaming, then upgradint the graphics card will be the most productive thing.

If it is for running multithreaded apps, then there are some possibilities for a cpu upgrade.
For starters, your I7-920 has a total passmark rating of 4991, and a single thread rating of 1160.
Look at the specs for your motherboard to get a list of supported cpu upgrades.
I am guessing that the strongest cpu might be a i7-990X, a 6 core cpu with a total rating of 9267, single thread rating of 1509.
It was a $1500 cpu new in it's day, and will probably sell for $350 used on ebay.

With Skylake i7-6700K available for the same price and even stronger performance, I think you might want to consider a different upgrade.

FWIW, the single most satisfying performance upgrade will be a SSD.
