My laptop is always having issues connecting at my father in law's house.

I've never seen this before. Any ideas why I'm getting a 192.168.1.x ip address and everything is else is on the 192.168.0.x

I tried an ipconfig /flushdns on my laptop and a reboot and it still maintained the same IP.

Also not sure if it matters but subnet mask is 255.255.240.0

Yup the subnet does matter that is what tells DHCP what range of subnets to pass out. can you change settings on his router? Change this to 255.255.255.0 an you will be golden. This setup with 240 give 4000 ip addresses I'm guessing he does not need that many LOL. Make sure your IP is not hard coded on your network card as well just a thought.

It's wierd as it said on anothe rpage it was 255.255.255.0.

In any event. I deleted the ocnneciton from network settings in win 7 on my laptop, and I reasssign the MAC address to a specific IP address and now it's working again.
