Hi, I've been having problems with a computer I built a few days ago. The computer boots up fine, however I get two short beeps. After looking in my Motherboard manual to find out what this meant it told me it was a CMOS error. The computer is fine until it gets to the Splash Screen. I press F12 to get into Boot Selection, but the BIOS doesn't load up. All I get is a blank screen with a white cursor. Sometimes the PC even skips the Splash Screen completely and takes me straight to this black screen with cursor. I have tried taking out the CMOS battery but still nothing. With this PC I have not yet been able to get into BIOS. How can I fix this CMOS error?
Specs:
Gigabyte GA-F2A88XM-D3H
1TB WD Blue Hard Drive
AMD Athlon X4 860K
EVGA 500W 80+ PSU
Kingston HyperX (2x4GB) RAM
XFX R7 250 GPU

Thanks.

One thing you could try is replacing the small button cell battery on the motherboard. It will be held in by a clip. Pull it out and get a new one of the same model number and voltage. Insert this and see whether anything changes.

After the battery has been changed, if the issue remains could you try these steps:

1. Try reseating the RAM modules (pulling them out and putting them back in again)
2. Try switching the RAM modules around or/and using different slots
3. Try only using one RAM module
4. Try using the other RAM module
5. Try resetting the CMOS - unplug the PSU (power supply) for 5 minutes, move the reset CMOS jumper for 5+ seconds and back again, plug the PSU back in and try to boot to the BIOS. If this does boot into the BIOS, press (F5) 'Load Optimized Defaults' and Save (F10) Yes and boot again. There's a video on this here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdHH9KrceR0

Hi, I did manage to solve my problem with the splash screen. Turns out, the monitor I was using was too old and couldn't handle the resolution of my graphics card. I bought a new monitor and that solved the problem.
