I have a dell xps 8500 from 2012 with an i7-3770 @ 3.40ghz processor, it has 16gb of ram, 2 tb of hard drive, and a nvidia gforce gt640 video card.

I just got a samsung eve 500 gb solid state drive to use to boot the os and my programs on...

I want to upgrade the video card in the future but I need to get a better psu then the current stock 460 watt one.

I have been told I should really get a 1000w one and I am looking at this one now...

I have been told that my motherboard could be an issue in this matter, that they only accept certain ones or something or other... is any one aware of this?

Also what is the diff between semi modular and full modular for plus?

And lastly, will this fit in my case especially with the new ssd inside of there as well?

Solution
as far as i know, motherboard shouldnt have an issue, but i dont see why you would need a 1000w psu, unless youre planning on running multiple graphics cards and/or have many drives.
also a modular psu, comes with no cables attached to it, as in all the cables will come with it and need to be plugged in.(i usually prefer these because you can plug in only the ones you need and it helps with cable management)
and lastly for if it will fit, just use a ruler or something and measure the clearance in your case and check the specs on the psu

Edit: i also forgot to mention that a SEMI-modular psu is one that comes with the main cables attached such as the mobo 24 pin connector and the cpu 8 pin.
