HELP! I put card back in camera to hook up the entire camera to computer and the camera said "card not formatted - format card?" I DID NOT format the card. The pictures are or were there. I was able to view the pictures with my camera just a few days ago. I don't know what happened.

I hooked it to my pc via a card reader and it says E:\ is not accessible.

I am a photographer. I've never had this problem. I absolutely can not loose these pictures. I am desperate and need the pics today.

Please help!

As soon as I insert it into my pc is says: You need to format the disk in drive G before you can use it.
It does show in my Control Panel and gives me this message: G:\ is not accessible. The volume does not contain a recognized file system. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted.

I've been using this computer for years and used many cards in it. I've never had a problem until now. I'm very concerned to say the least.

Nikon strongly recommends using the digital camera to format PC cards before use in the camera. Formatting in the camera ensures the proper settings and will give the most reliable operation.
Cards can also be formatted using a computer, but the "File System" setting must be changed to "FAT" before formatting (see screen shot to the right. If left at any other setting the card will not work in the camera.
Cards can not be formatted using a Macintosh computer.

should be in the cameras manual ???

ok I've got my camera. What should I do so that I don't loose my pics?

just googling it around it don't look good ? my camera uses a card but I don't recall formatting it just take pic'c then hook it to my computer with its usb cord then open it and copy and paste to a photo file I made for them ??

seemed like going through the camera like that should work

like cannon things can be funny with windows and extra software is needed ?????

I don't know my buddy has this camera but he's on duty so no getting him ?

anyway I was looking at that viewnx 2 software ?? don't know there not so clear in this manual on all this ?

all I see is they hardly bring up the format thing in it seems like it should be more up front ?? page 11 and 12

out side of that I guess insure the card in in correctly and the usb cord is as well or not got damaged in some way or a bad port or the card just went bad ??

I see where you posted at other sites on this - as the rest I'm at a loss on what to say next

sorry

It's beginning to sound like a lost cause for the photographs but it could be worth a light Quick Format in FAT then using recovery sofwtare to see if anything comes back.

Try Recuva and/or REST2514 - I've used both to recover data successfully after a quick format but I haven't formatted in a different files system so there is a risk.

Hey I'm having the same problem. Just like you anwanderer. Have you found a solution to this. I desperately need the photos on my SD card. Both my laptop n DSLR is unable to read the card and asking to format. What should I do?

Have you tried all the advice posted here? When the SdCard was removed, did anything show in the folder DCIM?

Are you using a stock file manager or a better one, such as Root File Manager? You don't have to root the system to use it and it gives you more options than the stock versions.
