I've decided to replace my motherboard with the same motherboard as it was causing too many issues.

When I get the same Mobo will it work fine with my existing harddrive?

i think I did an update to the latest version bios for the Mobo are they stored on the harddrive or Mobo?

BIOS updates are stored on the motherboard, so you might need to update your BIOS again when the new one arrives.

You'll also probably be fine with your current hard drive with the new motherboard.

There's a small chance that Windows will flag your key as invalid for changing motherboards, but since it's the same model it might not happen. Worse case scenario you'll just need to contact Windows Support and let them know what happened and they'll unflag your key.

BIOS is on the motherboard.

Provided they use exactly the same chipsets, the computer shouldn't even realize a difference. Occasionally, though, manufacturers do go through different "revisions" of a motherboard and change out some components onboard. Regardless, I don't think you'll blue screen on startup - should be fine.

Check the mobo website and be sure to get the latest drivers (those that come with it on disk will prob be out of date), also check for newer BIOS.

Have you done this on your original mobo - that may have been causing problems (the drivers and BIOS being out of date)

I have literally bought exactly the same motherboard!.

Not sure if it's a different version but it looks exactly the same on the images.

On my old Mobo I updated the bios to the latest from the website but I'm not sure what the second hand motherboard will have on it, I guess might be the first version.

I'll just have to wait and see, can I download the latest bios and update via USB? Or Disc?

If needs too.

Fantastic!.

It's a Foxconn G31MX 46GMX.

I've had the PC over 6yrs but it worked really well and fast for a long time.

Quad Q6600 pro.

Didn't want to buy a new PC as this is perfect for my uses.

You are right Mike, changed mobo and now I need to activate windows :-(.

Great.

Might be possible to downgrade to windows 7 then update to get free windows 10 again :-s

In that case don't just downgrade but do full installation of W7. Is it retail version or OEM ? In any case you can get in touch with MS first to get it re-activated. Other way would be to wait until after November 10th, since version 10565 it's possible to activate windows 10 just by entering number from W7/8.1 when installing W10. That's insider version and when new, Th2 gets mainstream after 10th, it will be possible with retail too. So wait for few days before you do anything drastic.

I don't have my orginal Win7 Key so I decided to buy a Windows 10 key.

Can you still install 2 different versions of Windows on one drive?
