Hi all,

Getting really close to finalizing my first ever pc build. I'm only now deciding on 2 graphics cards, the gtx 950 and the gtx 960. I'm more interested in power efficiency than performance, but I'd like to know if a gtx 950 is suitable for the following build, which will be used for 1080p gaming at medium high settings/ editing/ livestreaming ect. I'm not an enthusiast so 30-40fps will do me just fine on more demanding games. Is the power consumption between the 2 a substantial difference? I just don't want to be wasting energy (and by extension money) on a card that won't be utilized properly. Many thanks.

Solution
A 950 will do just fine at medium details. It will do good for several years to come. A GTX 960 is capable of maxing out most games at 1080p, so unless you want that much horsepower, I recommend sticking with the 950. It's performance isn't much worse than the 960.

If you're going to be at max settings the 950 may be pushing it. I have a friend who has the exact same setup except with the 960 and he can play everything maxed out at 60FPS, so I think that for what you're looking for the 950 should cut it, but I doubt it'll make a difference in terms of power consumption. There may even be features in the 960 that help with power consumption that the 950 doesn't have (I don't know this for a fact) but either way the power consumption should be the same.
