I'm rather new to PC gaming and decided I want to upgrade my HP Pavilion p7-1414 desktop, specs below. I'm sure most of you don't want to spoon-feed me what I need however, I truly am very ignorant in this field and any bit of help or info will be greatly appreciated. For starters I know I want a good dedicated graphics card but to do that I first need to upgrade the power supply. One that seemed good to me was the CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139027 . If that PSU is suitable what graphics card will be compatible with it and what other upgrades will I need to make for it to all work together. Thanks in advance for the help!

Case: ATX Height: 39.4 cm (15.55 inches)
Width: 17.5 cm (6.89 inches)
Depth: 40.9 cm (16.14 inches)
Weight: 10.9 Kg (24.03 lbs

RAM: 6GB

HDD: 1 TB

Processor: AMD A8 5500 3.2ghz quad core

Motherboard: MSI MS-7778 (Jasmine)
PSU: Form factor: Internal ATX
Total wattage: 300W
Nominal input voltage range: 200-240V/3A (50-60Hz)
Dimensions: 150mm x 140mm x 86mm (5.9 x 5.5 x 3.4 inches)

The fact that your case is 10.9 kilos does not matter.

Open your computer, and measure the size of existing CPU, and check whether there are any clearances. From here, start looking for PSU that will fit in the space.

Another thing to measure is the length of GPU you can fit against the PCIx16 slots, if any.
