I'm an absolute beginner to networking. I have an archer c8 router and 5 port smart switch. Both by TP-Link. I believe they both use IP address of 192.168.0.1, which I believe is causing a conflict in my setup. How do I correct this? Thanks!
Unplug the switch from the router. plug your PC/Laptop into the switch. Open a web browser and type 192.168.0.1 and then log into the switch using the default username/password: admin/admin
Then I believe you need to go to System >System Info > System IP
Change the IP address to static and give it an IP of 192.168.0.2 Subnet 255.255.255.0 and gateway 192.168.0.1 save the settings and log out. Now plug it back into the router.
Open a browser and type in 192.168.0.1 log in with your username and password (if you haven't yet changed it yet which I highly recommend you do the default will be admin/admin). Then choose menu > advanced > DHCP settings. Click enable. put the start address at 192.168.0.10 and end address at 192.168.0.254 and save your settings. (the reason I put start at .0.10 is so you still have some space for more static IP's if you want to add more switches or aps etc.... Let me know how you get on.
