Hiya, I have an 8gb SanDisk usb stick, it was working fine until yesterday now when I plug it into the computer it shows up as Removable Disk (I: ) (not the usb sticks name) if I click on it File explorer crashes before I can view any files. File explorer will also run really slowly until I remove the usb stick this happens on multiple PCs. Anyone know how I could save the usb stick or get the files off of it? Thanks

Hey there, MOK05.

It really sounds like the flash drive might have failed. You can try to check out what it says about it and its partition in Disk Management. As for getting the files out of it, you could try accessing it via Ubuntu Live USB/DVD, to see if it's properly recognized and if you can get to your data, or try data recovery software (if possible having in mind your computer freezes). Ultimately the most reliable option would be a data recovery company.

Just a friendly advice, you should never keep any important files you can't afford to lose on a flash drive, without having copies of that data somewhere else as well.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for replying so quickly, I've tried to get into Disk Management put it won't work while the USB stick is plugged in, there's nothing massively important on the usb stick just a few files it would be nice to save. I'll try the Ubuntu thing now. Thank you.

EDIT: Just tried you idea of using Ubuntu, managed to save all my files and format the USB stick, it's working fine again now. Thank you for your help
