Hi,
I have been debating whether to get the 2 or 4 GB version of the 960. I will be playing the new battlefront game, league of legends, CS:GO and maybe skyrim. So I was wondering will 4GB future proof my system or will 2GB be enough for a while.

Solution
you may never see the 4gb being used 80% of the time but if that 20% were to pop up your covered and will be glad you got it [ not looking for another new card that will cover it ] that extra little cash now or another 200 bucks later ??

For the games you are playing, 2GB card will be fine, however for future proofing (for the kind of games you listed and that kind of genre) a 4GB gpu will future proof you. However for top of the line games, 4GB won't stay future proof for very long.

Even years old games like GTA V use 3Gb wen 85% maxed out on graphics, with settings like frame scaling set to max, they come close to 4Gb

The 960 2GB vs. 4GB version has been discussed many times with the majority belief being that the extra 2GB wasn't worth it. Here is another user asking the same question:

Much depends on the price premium for 4gb.

VRAM has become a marketing issue.
My understanding is that vram is more of a performance issue than a functional issue.
A game needs to have most of the data in vram that it uses most of the time.
Somewhat like real ram.
If a game needs something not in vram, it needs to get it across the pcie boundary
hopefully from real ram and hopefully not from a hard drive.
It is not informative to know to what level the available vram is filled.
Possibly much of what is there is not needed.
What is not known is the rate of vram exchange.
Vram is managed by the Graphics card driver, so there may be differences in effectiveness between amd and nvidia cards.
Here is an older performance test comparing 2gb with 4gb vram.
http://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Video-Card-Performance-2GB-vs-4GB-Memory-154/
Spoiler... not a significant difference.

And.. no game maker wants to restrict the market by requiring large amounts of vram to run decently.

That said, if you have the budget, opt for 4gb, or you will forever wonder if you should have.

its not like were talking a100 bucks ???

anyway that's how I see it and just my opinion

all you can do in the end is what you feel is best for you

good luck

Why do I see a green "Pick as the solution" button on this and other threads?

I did not start this thread, shouldn't only DJMatt have that option?

heres some stuff to look at ?

well depends on the program and monitor resolutions and all in how much resources it may require at settings and all

look up reviews like this

http://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/1888-evga-supersc-4gb...

and he kinda says as I did in the Conclusion

but like I think and he shows for the 20 buck price diff , why not just get the 4gb and be covered all around ??

one more for fun
