Based on CPUBoss' scores, the G3258 scores better than the core i3 models, especially at the overclocking. It's also a lot cheaper. I'm planning to buy a G3258, along with 4GB of RAM and a new motherboard.

Now, my question is: How well would the G3258 do in gaming WITHOUT overclocking it? My primary PC has a core i3 3220 with 4GB RAM and does pretty well in low-medium quality gaming.

I am not a heavy gamer, I have a life outside of that. Since I found the G3258 as a bang for the buck CPU, I was set on buying it.

Most YT and User reviews on the G3258 are usually about the overclocked version, but I want to know how it is unclocked.

I will handle the GPU decisions myself, but for now, I want you guys to help me with this. Thanks.

The Pentium will beat your current CPU in single-threaded games and probably perform about the same in multi threaded. If you play threaded games AMD is probably the way to go, though. Especially if you weren't planning on buying a particularly powerful GPU AMD can be a good value. Single threaded though you can't beat the Pentium. Sane single-threaded performance a clock as an i7, which is why it performs so well and overclocks great.
