how to know if my i5 2310 is underperforming in games

So i dont know if i should spend to get z97 plus 4690k or just save money and get a cheap mobo for this cpu with sata 3 to gain access to full ssd speed cause my current mobo is only sata 2.
i have r9 290 vapor x and 8gb ram

Yeah that CPU is starting to age and your GPU is great. I would look into getting a new CPU/MOBO.

And you will not notice any performance difference with an sata 3 port compared to sata 2 for your ssd anyway. The only thing that really matters in typical dektop apps is access / seek time and that stays the same.
