I know people are loving x99 because of the pcie lanes, but what practical meaning does that have? For instance, if I have a 4790k machine with sli or crossfire setup, is that gpu pair going to be noticeably slower than if it was a 5820k or 5390k? Is there anywhere I can see numbers comparisons?

4790k allows for dual GPU at 8x with its 16 lanes
5820k has 28 lanes
5930k has 40 lanes
those x99 only useful for tri and quad SLI/CF
but for dual setups lets say x16 x 2 vs x8 x 2 is hardly any difference at all
