Hi all, so I recently got 2 sticks of 4gb crucial pc3-8500 ram to replace my hyper blue 4gb single stick. When I installed the new ram the computer turns on, but the keyboard doesn't light up and nothing appears on the monitor. It works fine with the old ram, and I checked Crucial's website which said it was compatible with my gigabyte GA-990FX UD3 motherboard. I tried draining the cmos for 15 minutes, but that didn't work. Any help is appreciated !

Hi paragade,

1) Try to add just one RAM stick at a time and see if one of them will boot

2) If you can, try both new RAM sticks in another PC to see if they work there

There's a chance they are bad units and need to be RMA'd, but it's worth doing a few tests first to make sure they are the culprit.

It's unusual that both sticks would be bad, but not impossible.

Without another PC to test them on we can't be 100% sure, but it certainly sounds to me like they probably need to be RMA'd for replacement. Keep an eye on this thread for the next day or so, we have a couple of professional RAM specialists around that might chime in with something else to try.
