So I just helped my friend build a computer and have not installed the os yet. When turning the pc on is it supposed to boot into the bios right away or am I supposed to do something?

If I turn it on and do nothing it eventually goes to code A0 on the motherboard. If I try to press the delete key when I turn it on to go to the bios like the manual says instead of A0 it shows code 99. Either way nothing has shown up on my monitor no matter what I do.

This is only my second pc build so I am not the most knowledgeable or experienced and any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

We finally got around to doing some more troubleshooting and found out that the graphics card was the issue. After we took it out and installed the os we were able to put the graphics card back in. I thought It would be ok to install the graphics card before the os, but apparently not. Anyway thanks again to everyone who posted!
First thing to try is to clear the CMOS. Sometimes static electricity can cause an issue like this especially on new builds since you are handling all the parts. Either look up what is the CMOS clear jumper in the manual or remove the CMOS battery for a couple minutes(this looks like an old watch battery).

I have tried removing the CMOS battery. It did not seem to do anything.

I think that's everything...

I'm not currently with the computer, and my friend can't currently do any troubleshooting. I will post again when he has tried this solution. Thank you for the help so far. Hopefully you can still help us once we can do more troubleshooting.

Also for some extra information. According to the motherboard manual: code A0 means "IDE initialization is started" and code 99 means "Super IO Initialization"

I'm not sure what either means...

This was going to be my follow up if the CMOS clear didn't help. My gut feeling on the code 99 is the hard drive has an issue. I would follow this method and see if you can get it to a clean A0 bios. If that works then slowly introduce parts one at a time and boot. This should allow you to find the issue.
