Hi there, wondering if anyone could help me figure this out. I have a problem with some games like pes 15 and Motopg 15 and its that the game plays fine only that i get black border at the top and at the bottom of the screen. (Also known as letterbox in pes. ) is there any way to remove it?

With pes some years ago, the game configuration alowed you to remove the black borders by un ticking the "letterbox" check, but thats not available anymore. i have only been able to get rid of it fiddling with the game resolution, but i didnt like the outcome. (only 2 out the 20 resolutions option removed the black bars)

With motopg its the same (1600x1024).

The only way i have found to reduce the bars is by actually changing my desktop resolution down down down :(. For example:

Desktop res: 1280 x 960
Motogp:1600x1024
Result: Black bars top and bottom

Desktop res: 1600x1024
Motogp:1600x1024
Result: Black bars top and bottom

Desktop res: 800 x 600
Motogp:1600x1024
Result: Almost no black bars!!

Iv also trying lowering motogp res but no luck... only by lowering desktop res....

Obviously i cant work rutinely with 800 x 600, so my only way around this is changing the screen res every time i play a game.... there must a way aorund this? any suggestions??

Iv got a 660 GTX DirectCu II
and a wide screen (http://www.alphr.com/philips/philips-200cw/29085/philips-200cw-review)

Cheers!

Solution
Matching the programs resolution with your monitors native resolution should remove the black bars.

Your GPU (GTX 660) should have scaling features, when enabled should stretch the game window to match your native resolution to remove black bars as well.

The page you linked describing your display claims that its native resolution is 1680 x 1050, try to set this everywhere (for your desktop resolution, and game resolution) to eliminate black bars, and get the best viewing quality possible from your display.

If your OS lacks this resolution natively, you can setup a custom profile for your display and attempt to input this resolution manually. This should be found in your Nvidia GPU settings menu under displays (right click on your...

Take into account you seem to have a 16:10 monitor. That's an unusual resolution nowadays, so there's a chance the developers simply decided to drop support for it. Many games nowadays only support 4:3 or 16:9 resolutions.

Thx, i think i tried with that res 1680 x 1050 but with no lucks il try again!

Yes it can. this is what im acutally doing manually, the problem being if i change the res to the one usually dont use to 800x600 my icons get all fiddled up. I will cosider this option though...

Annother idea has occuered which il try when possible is playing with the exe "custumization", disbaling certing checks.. see if that occurs

Even though that maybe right! in the end i am able to remove the bars, the issue is to go from 1280 x 960 to 800x600 back to 1280 x 960 or trick the game my desktop res is 800x600 or what ever makes it strech

cheers!

Note that your solution to remove the bars (switching to 1280x960 or 800x600) involves switching to a 4:3 resolution. Try also looking for an aspect ratio option within the game; maybe changing that will let you choose a more appropriate resolution without stretching.

Make sure that your game resolution isn't changing somehow when you alt-tab.

Another option if available would be to use "Fullscreen - Windowed" mode opposed from "Windowed" or "Fullscreen" inside the game's video settings, this should match the game resolution to your windows desktop resolution, and if windows doesn't have black bars, the game when properly matched to it, shouldn't have black bars either.

Hope this helps, best of luck!
