Memory compatible with Motherboard? Corsair and Asrock

Hello,

recently I bought a Corsair vengeance 8gb memory stick (http://www.corsair.com/en-us/vengeance-8gb-ddr3-memory-kit-cmz8gx3m1a1600c10b , CMZ8GX3M1A1600C10B) and a Asrock motherboard (FM2A78 Pro3+, http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/FM2A78%20Pro3+/)

Now when I look at the supported memory list on the motherboard's website it doesn't show this stick as supported. On it's packaging (of the Corsair) it also only shows that it supports Intel, and doesn't say anything about AMD. So I'm not completely sure whether they are compatible

Intel vs. AMD doesn't matter in this case, the same RAM works for both. The RAM list you are looking at is only the modules they specifically tested, there are far too many brands/models for them to try them all. So, the RAM you bought will *probably* work, you just have to try it and see, it won't hurt anything to try it.

The motherboard supports DDR3 2400+(OC)/2133/1866/1600/1333/1066 non-ECC, un-buffered memory with Dual Channel DDR3 Memory Technology.

The memory support list is not all inclusive but shows what has been tested.

Since the CPU or APU contains the memory controller, the choice of CPU or APU would help determine what memory to use. Also, since the motherboard uses Dual Channel DDR3 Memory Technology you should use a matched pair not a single DIMM.

I'm not saying CMZ8GX3M1A1600C10B isn't compatible, but it is likely the wrong speed for your APU or CPU.

You also need to set the memory options in the BIOS or the memory will only run at a conservative (SPD) Serial Presence Detect speed.

DRAM Timing Configuration
Load XMP Setting
Loading XMP settings will set the memory to rated specifications.

You can check CPU-World.con for the correct memory speed for your processor.
For example,
Family
AMD A10-Series
Model number: A10 PRO-8850B
CPU part number: AD885BXBI44JC is an OEM/tray microprocessor

Memory controller The number of controllers: 1
Memory channels: 2
Supported memory: DDR3-2133
