So i have done a bunch of research, and seem to be stuck between the GTX 970 and the r9 390.

I want to use a gpu that'll last me the longest in the upcoming years, so one that could handle higher resolutions than 1080p and such.

From my research, i hear there is more potential for the r9 390 because Directx 12 is performing much better than nvidia (by a long shot). However I do know that the GTX 970 is beating the 390 in some areas.

Also, does the 390 even utilize all 8gb of vram?

Help me choose a next gen gpu!

Solution
It won't be able to now but it's more future proof and will run at higher resolutions. There are already games going past the 3.5gb on the gtx970 though the whole debate over the 970 v the 390 is kind of blown out of proportion. Either one will be a great card it depends on how much money you have and your PSU because the 390 requires more power. I would go with which ever card is cheaper.

The 390 performs better in resolutions higher than 1080, also, having 8 GB of Vram, makes it a great choice for adding a second 390 down the road. The 390 in crossfire has the best price/performance ratio for rigs at 4k.

Is the 390 able to use all of its vram? I hear things like it not being able to utilize all of its ram, and the extra ram being thrown on there for jacking up the price. Is this true?
