Hi

i just got my msi gtx 980. i have two 6 pin connectors left over from my old gtx 680.
i used the 6 to 8 pin adapter that came with my 980, but apparently that isn't enough... the card requires 165 w. however i guess my 150w from the connector and 75 additional from the pci-e 3.0 port isn't enough? how does this work. (the other 6 pin leftover cable is laying idle for the moment btw)

i have also been freaking out about my card not working or being detected inside my pc. i hope that is because it needs more power, i took the fans spinning and light from the logo as a sign that it should have enough power. but after some reserch i found out i might be retarded :D hælp me

Yep, all the connectors need to be populated. They put sensors on the inputs to make sure it is done.

While the cables you have plugged in likely can supply all the power the card needs, it is for safety against cheap power supplies that skimp on the wire size.
