I have a HP 6500A plus that started showing "ink system failure" error. I bough a refurbished print head from eBay but the printer did not recognized it. The seller said that it is quite possible that my printer "burned" the new print head and replaced it with a different one. Still the printer does not recognize this one either. I used the hidden service menu to reset the printer to factory state, I even replaced the motherboard to check if that could solve the issue but none of the 2 refurbished print heads (the one i bought first and the one i received as replacement) worked (the printer keeps showing the install a print head video on the display). If i install the original print head, the same "ink system failure" error shows on the screen. I am hesitant to buy a brand new print head because it is very expensive. So my question is: has anyone had any experience with the claim made by the seller that my printer could "burn" the print head? Has any member of this forum used refurbished print heads like the ones they are selling on eBay or amazon? (i have already bought a new printer but wanted to repair this one as a backup), Thank you all for your time.

The print head can indeed bake itself shut if there is no ink, but there's also no such thing as a refurb print head since the only things that can break are integral and can't be fixed. Most likely it was just a salvaged but untested part from a printer they tore apart and sold as scrap. Ask for your money back and just put it towards a better printer like the :
