Ok so this is my first attempt at building a complete system from scratch. I've upgraded parts, replaced parts, etc but ive never done this before so I'd just like to get some input. I'm buying a few parts at a time so that the price doesn't overwhelm me.

First off, I'll list what Ive recently purchased already:

I'm not sure as to which OS I'm getting yet, I just started testing out W10 (was iffy about updating my current PC to it) and I have a general idea of what else im going for
I know i need DDR4 RAM, and at least 16 gigs (2x8) though i'd really prefer more at a later time. I'm thinking I'm probably going to go with an SSD/HDD combo, using the SSD as my main drive and the HDD for media/etc storage.
I also want to put in some extra case fans to make good use of the HAF X's size/cooling (plus ive always wanted LED fans lol)
As far as extra drives goes, I'll probably only get 1 or MAYBE 2 dvd-rws, and a couple extra HDDs for even more media storage
Video cards, I really dont know much about, and i'm not really sure if ill absolutely "NEED" them just yet, but i do plan on getting at least one in the future

All this being said, I'm going to buy my PSU tomorrow from frys, and I just wanted some ideas/thoughts on the whole setup as well as the psu recommendations. I was thinking of getting the Antec HCG-900 900w http://www.frys.com/product/6708475?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
Also grabbing the RAM tomorrow so any ideas on that would be great as well.

Well how much are you looking to spend!! and I would highly doubt you need a 900w power supply unless you are getting titans or something, and why do you have to use that site, you could get a lot better value on other sites and a lot better variety?

You say in the title that you are also focusing on price, but you fail to mention how much you are able to spend on this build...
By the looks of it, you are able to spend quite a lot, as there are many aspects of your build that are pointlessly expensive, and complete overkill.

You don't need 16gb of RAM, 8gb is more than enough at the moment, and when it isn't enough anymore, it's extremely easy to add another 8gb to make 16.

I don't see why you would ever need 2 cd drives, as 1 is fine, and some people don't even have one, they prefer to use USB sticks for portable media storage.

900w PSU is completely unnecessary. Your build would require about 300w without a GPU, and about 400-500w with a GPU (depending on the manufacturer and the power, it could be a bit more) But 900w is complete overkill.

Thank you for the replies. I got the 900w PSU that I posted, and only bought 8 gigs of RAM (2x4 3400MHz Viper with heatspreader)

As far as overkill goes on the PSU, yeah I got a much stronger one than I needed, because I'm eventually going to upgrade to 2 GPUs, lotsa HDDs, lotsa fans, leds, etc and it's better to have more than the system needs. I checked the PSU calc with newegg and found with the parts im getting/have id need at least 450w.

As for 2 CD drives, I was thinking of doing 1 Dvd-rw and a blu-ray but, if there's a drive that can do both then ill use the space for an additional item like an lcd screen or more usb ports, idk yet. There's also this cool lil thing i saw that opens up a drawer for storage in one of those spots lol

And yeah I'm spending a lot on it, but I'm also not buying the absolute BEST of the best that i've seen out there, that's what I meant by price being an issue. I get an extra spendable 300-500 every 2 weeks, and I've seen/heard of people spending thousands and thousands on a single computer.

Oh and I use fry's because it's right down the street from me, I'm not a big fan of ordering things online since ive had a few shitty experiences with it in the past. I'll order sometimes but, I definitely prefer picking things up in a store.

OK well in answer to your question, that build is very good.

You mention 'gaming' in the title, so I will suggest that you get a video card, otherwise you might struggle to play many games :)

For around $200 you can get an R9 380 or a GTX 960 GPU (Both very similar, just depends on if you prefer nVidia or AMD):
https://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-video-card-r9380gaming4g
They are capable of running any new games at 1080p at around 50-60fps.

For around $300 you could get an R9 390 or a GTX 970, both very similar again.
https://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-video-card-strixgtx970dc2oc4gd5
These cards perform much better than their other versions above. They can manage games at 60fps in 4K, or easily over 60fps in 1080p (I don't know what resolution you plan on using)

Anything more expensive wouldn't really be worth the extra money, although, if you insist on highest quality then the GTX 980/980ti is the best choice. They are very expensive cards though.

Hope this helps
