My motherboard DDR2 and SATAII but no raid and plug and play features.I want to install new additional Hard disk as secondary disk keeping the old one as primary. can I install Seagate ST3320311CS 320 Gb Pipeline Hard disk which is SATA 3Gbs intreface. If i want to install SATA 6gbs is it possible. Please explain both queries.

Solution
Yes can use it, you dont need raid / hot plug feature. Just install the new hard disk in one of the SATA ports.

Your motherboard has to support SATA 6Gb/s if not it will just use 3Gb/s interface or 1.5Gb/s if it is SATA1, it is downward compatible.

Hi, it would be better to start a new thread with your full system specs and as much detail possible for this problem, thanks. Seems like a problem with the drive itself, if your motherboard supports SATA2 it will be compatible with SATA1,2 and 3.

I think this does not solve my problem. the system detects the hard disk but error. My mother board is As rock G31M-S Model . Os is Win7-32 Bit CPU: P4 HT Tech . Iwant to install additional Hard disk of 320 Gb keeping the Original Hard disk as primary hard disk. is 80Gb capacity.
Is seagate ST3320311CS Pipeline hard disk compatible? Please suggest a compatible hard disk.

Your motherboard supports 4 x SATA2 3.0 Gb/s so it will be compatible with all SATA 1,2 or 3 HDDs. If the drive is showing up as error then there might be problem with the HDD itself or how it was connected, which is another problem altogether. Try starting a thread in Storage with details of the error.
