Asus R9 270X won't allow me to adjust voltage, how to change that?

A while back I tried to overclock my GPU, an Asus R9 270X DirectCU II TOP 2GB, and after playing with voltage and clock speeds found an overclock I thought would work after all the testing I'd done. However it crashed after a few days and I just reset it to default settings and it knocked my confidence with overclocking in general.

About a week or two ago, I had another crack at overclocking my system and was able to get my CPU nice and stable but when it came to my GPU, I tried to adjust the voltage after finding instability in a core clock of 1250MHz and memory clock of 6GHz effective only to find the option greyed out in MSI Afterburner. I checked the settings to make sure it was unlocked to adjust the voltage and it is but the software won't let me change it.

Asus GPU tweak has an even weirder effect in that whenever I try to adjust the voltage the slider doesn't move but the number will either rocket up to 2412mV or drop to 807mV from the default of 1205mV and I know that my GPU has a limit of 1300mV from looking through reviews of the card before I bought it.

Is there any way to unlock the voltage control or should I just leave it at stock and not bother with an overclock?
