I just migrated to a new case and also had some trouble installing an after market cpu cooler but I think I did everything else right. I managed to check the pc health in the bios before it shut down and the cpu temp was low. Could it be the psu? I did the paperclip test and it worked. I don't know what else to do. I was a bit rough on the psu when I removed it from the old case. Also, I hear no beeps when it shuts down

Specs:
amd 8350
Gigabyte motherboard ga78lmt
650w psu 80 bronze plus
Gtx 960
1 hdd
8gb of ram. 1stick

That's your CPU overheating very quickly and shutting down so it doesnt' get damaged.
The temps in the bios are read out only ever half to a second - thos things can get very hot very quickly, and 5-10 secs until shutdown seems "perfect to a bit long".
Check if the fan is spinning, if it does, reseat the cooler, check an article or two on how and how much thermal paste to use. Yes, there can be too much, and very easily so, and yes, you have to clean it off and do it again every time you take off the cooler.

I'd really be AMAAAAAAAAAAZED if it was anything other than the CPU overheating.

Yeah, have fun with that, I hope you have not started yet.

check an article or two on how and how much thermal paste to use I actually wrote that for a reason.
If it came pre-applied (a "sticker" of thermal on the cooler) than you can't re-use that, and that's why I used the terms "paste" and "apply", and "check".
