Question regarding multiple ethernet cables to a modem and router

Hello, everyone!

I would like to ask a question regarding my home network. I currently have a modem/router combo from my ISP, but I also have a Linksys router from a previous purchase. The WiFi in my house is spotty (at best), on other floors. I purchased a powerline adapter and connected the modem to the powerline on one floor, and then connected the powerline to my Linksys router on a different floor, in order to boost WiFi there. Additionally, I have my PC, PS4 and DirectTV all plugged into my MODEM via Ethernet. My connection is not bridged, and has different SSID's. So far everything seems to be working normal, although my modem was resetting itself today when I came home from work.

Is this a coincidence, or a result of my having an improper setup? If so, what would a proper set up be? Could I turn my linksys router into a wireless access point for the second floor? There is a very low level of WiFi that drops out every so often on that floor without my new setup.

I appreciate your time and help. Thank you!

Thanks for the response, Tech. I dont have to bridge my modem do I? I mean, its okay for me to have both my modem/router and router with their WiFi setting enabled, correct?
