I asked my brother about this and he said I should get a new mobo and cpu since if i get a better amd cpu and an nvidia gtx 970 (currently have amd fx 6300 overclocked to 4.7 ghz and an r9 270x slightly overclocked) it will be incompatible and I will get screen tearing and other issues is this true or is he wrong?

Don't take pc advice from your brother anymore. They are compatible, but the CPU will bottleneck a gtx 970. Won't hurt anything, but your gpu won't live up to its potential. Only thing you have to worry about is power supply, and possibly case clearance, depending on the card you buy.

I know it's been solved, but yes you can. My gaming pc runs an AMD FX8350, and a GTX 760. Works just fine. Just make sure your CPU is strong enough to get the FULL potential out of that card.
