Just got back from my deployment, and got some extra money so decided to build a new rig, since its been years since I have built one. I will be using the rig primarily for gaming and multitasking. Here is what I have so far;

PC Build:

Case:
Thermaltake Level 10 GT

Motherboard:
AsRock Z170 Extreme7+

CPU:
Skylake i7-6700k

CPU Cooler:
Cant decide between these 2. I know their performance is pretty much the same, and the Noctua is much quitier, but I think the H100i GTX looks much better by far than the Noctua. So I am stuck on these 2.

Noctua NH-D15 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608045&cm_re=noctusa_nh-d15-_-35-608-045-_-Product

Corsair Hydro Series™ H100i GTX http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181090&cm_re=h100i-_-35-181-090-_-Product

GPU:
Cant really decide between these, they are all roughly around the same price. If you guys have any suggestions please let me know! Thanks!
MSI GeForce GTX 970 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127850&cm_re=Nvidia_GeForce_GTX_970-_-14-127-850-_-Product
Sapphire Tri-X Radeon R9 290x http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202089&cm_re=AMD_Radeon_R9_290X-_-14-202-089-_-Product
Sapphire Nitro Radeon R9 390 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202164&cm_re=Radeon_R9_390-_-14-202-164-_-Product

RAM:
Corsair Vengence 32gb DDR4 2400

Power Supply:

OCZ Z Series 1000W Modular 80PLUS Gold

Hard Drive:

SSD Samsung 850 Evo 500gb
Storage: WD Black Series 3TB

Anyways let me know what you guys think, and if there are any changes you guys would recommend. Thanks again!

I will always choose air cooling over closed loop water cooling.

You could get the i7 5820k + X99 motherboard for about the same price as the 6700k + Z170.

There are dozens of better psus for the same price or cheaper.

The Sapphire 390 is probably the best video card of the 3 listed.

No need for 32GB of RAM.

Looks like a good build! I think you should halve your ram to 16GB and put those extra dollars into an even better GPU or just keep the money for peripherals or something. 16GB is more than enough for today's games. Also, if you get the GTX970 (which I recommend) I would get an EVGA SC ACX 2.0. The new cooler is a big improvement and it has a factory overclock. Also, you probably won't need a 1000W PSU unless you plan to go SLI/crossfire in future. I would also stick to the Z170 and Skylake CPU, it's always useful to be on the latest hardware. This is a perfectly good build. Good luck, and happy gaming!

Thanks for the reply! For the cooler I was thinking the same thing, especially since it had good reviews, but it is huge, and the way my case is I do not know if it would be much of a benefit. And the i7 5820+x99 is actually more expensive than the i6700+z170 by about $30.

Thanks for the reply. Ya 32gb is prob def an overkill ill stick with 16gb. What GPU would you suggest that I did not list? I dont mind paying a little more it just seemed all the ones that had better benchmark results than the ones I listed were nearly double to triple the price of the ones I picked. If it was $100-$150 more I would not mind dishing out the money. Also for the PSU I do plan on eventually SLI/Crossfire it is also my old PSU, and is still good so I planned on reusing it. Yes I agree with the mobo/cpu. Thanks again for the input!

$30 is practically nothing in a build that's going to be well over $1000. The 5820k + X99 is far more capable.

Hi again! Come to think of it, a GTX970 probably is your best option. They would be perfect for sli down the track.
Also, an i75280k is rather pointless for gaming. Only now are games starting to make use of four CPU cores. You would be much safer to use the newer architecture. Other than that, this build looks good to go. Enjoy it!

Thats a valid point, but what makes you say the i7-5820k is better than the 6700k? Everything I read said the 6700k was good and the 6700k had better benchmark results. Was their a particular reason? Thanks for the input!

The new skylake architecture is better designed to work with DDR4 and it is more power efficient too (as far as i know). I would expect it to work brilliantly with directx 12 too. The only downside is that you are limited (for now) to a Z170 motherboard. Once again, there's no point in sticking to an older, more expensive architecture with two more cores than you actually need.

The X99 platform is just more capable. Supports more cores, quad channel ddr4 support, more PCI lanes, more ports, more features.

I'd take the 6 core(12 thread) 5820k over the 4 core(8 thread) 6700k all day.

The main point is, Skylake is still overpriced. It shouldn't be anywhere near the X99 platform in price.
