i have noticed this especially just a few minutes ago when i shut down starcraft 2, which i am running maxed out at 1920 x 1080 (specs below), basickly as the title implies when i shut down the game the entire computer becomes unusable for a few minutes sometimes its 3 minutes sometimes its so bad i have to restart it. i tried running msi afterburner on the side and after i shut down the game i monitored all the cpu and gpu usage it never went anywhere above 30 - 40 % ram stayed at 1.5 gb usage, i am really thankful for any support if you have any question i will be happy to answer them.
cpu : amd fx 8320 oc to 4.0 GHz from 3.5
ram : 8gb
gpu : gtx 670 gigabyte oc 500 on memory clock 100 on core clock
psu : 500 watts evga
mobo:990fxa gigabyte ud5 r 3.0
hdd speed: 7200rpm on is 160 gb the other is 1 tb both where being used, there is a third drive which only had 50 gb but that is not used for gaming.
p.s. this is running windows 7 64 bit

hey drifter,

To answer you last question first here is a great SSD for a pretty good price:
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-2-5-Inch-Internal-MZ-75E250B-AM/dp/B00OAJ412U/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1447347924&sr=1-1&keywords=samsung+850+evo

I just bought the 500Gb version and it beat my 840 pro in the benchmarks.

onto your issue. I will say %30-%40 CPU usage in idle seems like quite a lot. you could start by going to the task manager and seeing what is chewing up most of your CPU usage at that time and killing it. Maybe the game is not exiting properly?

It could be an old drive tipping its hat. Usually they outright die, but some of them like to linger. When was the last time you did a clean install of windows or...

hi, thankyou for your suggestion, all thought i will have to pass, i just dont have money for an ssd at this moment, is there any way i can check which hdd is the bad one if there is one ? i might be able to replace it with my spare one but i dont want to waste my time installing everything again if you are incorrect (i only say this because i have as slow internet and a lot of games installed atm, would take me a very very long time to re download all of them.)
p.s. if it does come down to that i will proceed to do it.
p.p.s what ssd can i get just for windows if im on an extremely low budget i could possibly try get on on black Friday or cyber Monday.
again thankyou

It could be an old drive tipping its hat. Usually they outright die, but some of them like to linger. When was the last time you did a clean install of windows or cleaned/defragged your system though? There is a temporary file in windows that you can find my going to [start] -> [run] and then type in "%temp%" (without the quotes of course). when you hit [enter] it will take you to the temporary folder and it will be filled with A BUNCH of files. I have had some luck in the past emptying the temp folder so you could try that.

If you have a way to look at your HDD activity after you close the game i would also try that. see if your drive is being maxed out, or at a high useage for a long time.

Hope this helps, good luck!

ok firstly thankyou for your responce.
secondly, i have sorted it out, my motherboard is the issue here and more specifically gigabyte and their terrible way of downloading drivers which gave me a trojen that was slowing down my computer (using up a lot of the cpu), to add to that yes the disk is actually very old and i have replaced it with a not brand new but "new er" if so can be said drive, anyway, i reinstalled windows about a week a go, and now done it again for the (i lost count) time, and i did not realize it was the driver, since the driver is needed im abandoning this motherboard in term replacing my cpu since i switched sockets to 1150.
p.s. im disappointed in gigabyte iv been a fan of their graphics card design for a long long time now so i thought i could trust them with motherboards but i guess not.

again thankyou.

This sounds very much like an overheating problem. I would first check that both cpu and gpu. The easiest fix is to re-dope the thermal paste on the cpu; don't over-do it.

Oww i got bored of the horror on thr gigabyte motherboard i see everyone complaining so i just replaced it with an msi and an i5 4690k it works perfect guys, im sorry to say but the way gigabyte makes you download their drivers not only did it allways slow down my pc it would really make it unusable, leav alone the fact that the antivirus would attempt to deleat the downloaded folder which in theory meant there is a virus inside l, that might just be my expiriance but gigabyte motherboards are not very good
