yes i did. and my bios doesnt let me do that. i havent updated the bios in a while but i dont know how to do so. could that be the problem?

Even for one specific mobo there is a few way mobo BIOS can be flashed. If you still have manual intructions for your mobo theen try look around. They usually have instruction on how to properly flash the BIOS with a new one. But before that try resetting your BIOS first.

Anyway please give your system full spec.

sadly i dont know how to reset my bios. and for full system specs how would i find that. sorry im really new at this

The easiest way to reset your BIOS setting is by removing the BIOS battery. Did you still have your motherboard manual? If so you can try looking around on how to load default setting from BIOS.

As for the spec i need to know your PSU information at the very least. You should be able to fine the information on the sticker they put on that unit.

oh ok the cmos battery thing? and the power supply is a hercules 600w and i think i should mention that this computer was a pre built hp computer. all i have done is change the power supply and the graphics card. im trying to switch from my gt 620 to the gtx 660

Ok then when you plug in 660 inside can the pc be turn on or not? Or it did turn on but it cannot detect the gpu? Means the gpu is apinning at all but there is no signal when the gpu connected to monitor. But when connected to video output from motherboard the monitor works fine?

yes when its pugged in and spinning the computer boots up fine. but there is no signal coming out the gpu. when i plug it into the motherboard the signal is perfect.

Honestly i was thinking it could be power supply issue. But try resetting your BIOS first. Seems like primary monitor still set to use integrated graphic instead of your 660. Btw in device manager did the OS somehow able to detect the card's presence?

to reset the bios i take out the battery in the motherboard right? and yes see thats the main problem, device manager doesnt pick it up either, if it did this would be simpler but like the card is not read at all. the port works for sure cuz i still use my ld graphics card as a test and it runs fine. this one doesnt get picked up at all.

Would be better if you have other PC to test the card. It could be the power supply cannot provide enough power to the card causing the system failed to detect the card. For the 6pin power connector did you connect using one that coming directly from the power supply or did you use molex (like using 2 4 pin Peripheral to one 6 pin PCIE)?

i used a molex. and i wish i could test it but i dont have a computer to test it on

If you coulr test the card on other pc and it work then it might be your power supply. For much decent power supply even 400-450 have at least have one PCIE 6 pin with them. But yours there were none means it could be generic unit and not meant to power graphic card that needs a lot more power. Your 600w unit most likely not be able to power something than 750ti at best. If you're lucky maybe something like 950 (which rated at 90w). Maybe you can ask your friend (that give you that 660) which power supply you can get to power that 660 properly.

allen, sorry to cut in. Are you sure you have connected the 6 pin gpu power cable? Because i doubt that you did
Why? its because your pc is HP Compaq dc7900 Convertible Minitower. I read the manual http://www.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01549447.pdf and it only has 135W pure power supply.
The 660 need at least 450W power supply and they do need extra 6 pin cable from the power supply attached directly to the gpu. I can be sure HP will never provide the extra 6 pin because the pc were not intended to be upgraded into gaming station. They always do this on branded pc such as Dell, HP and etc. Home and office model were restricted in power supply and even the space.

Please pick as best answer if this help
