New Asus Z97-A/3.1, Installed BIOS version 2501. Unsure if this covers me for the 5th gen processor.

Sorry for the long title but I wanted to be descriptive. I just built a new computer. The disc that came with the mobo (Z97-A/3.1) had the bios version 2501 installed.

My question is, is this automatically be okay for my Intel i7-4790 4.0Ghz cpu? Or do I need to update the BIOS?

I found this site http://www.asus.com/microsite/2015/mb/5th_gen_Intel_CPU_ready/. Explaining how to update the bios but my mobo only seems to work with the updater and I'm not sure how to use it, how do I select my bios (how do i find it on the file explorer)? This all might not be necessary though if this newest BIOS is already CPU ready.

The updater can be found in the asus drivers here http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Z97AUSB_31/HelpDesk_Download/, I am running windows 7 64-bit.

I'm really worried about bricking my mobo whiling improperly updating the BIOS so any advice, instructions, or guidance would be amazingly appreciated. Thank you!

You can update the BIOS within the bios or within Windows. Within the bios is better imho.
You just need to download the bios CAP file of the newest version onto a USB. You plug it into one of the usb ports. You then boot into the bios, and go to the ASUS EZ flash utility.

The alternative is windows method of AISuite:

My AI Suite III doesn't seem to be working exactly right. It looks like this

. Would you know how I can fix that issue?

Thanks. That's what I was hoping. I did however download the updater and a version of the 2501 BIOS. I used the updater on the BIOS that was just sitting in my downloads folder but I didn't try to install the new BIOS. Using the updater on the .CAP file wouldn't have done anything other than alter that file right (like it wouldn't have changed the BIOS the mobo is using, right)?

It brings up another window called EZ update to check for a new bios but it doesn't seem to be working. The window should have my model number, bios version, and release date there.

Then don't use EZ update. Just update within the bios.
