.I have my R9 280 (I wish I could find a decent priced 770 ) and I can still play very good at 1080. why upgrade to a super fast 970 or 380? I have no intentions of migrating to the 2k + or 4k monitors anytime soon. I can play any new title with decent fps ...on my 24 inch. Dell monitor. Is there any incentive to move upward to a 970 or 380 ...if I'm still playing at 1080?

Solution
well, because it's not much of an upgrade. for you to feel the difference, skip around 2 generations. it also depends on the games that you play

Funny you ask, cos I find myself living the same dilemma, I mean, I have a GTX 670 which is able run any game at 1080p in high/ultra settings and recently I've passed the chance to upgrade to a GTX970, and now I can get a gtx 780ti for not much, but I guess you're right in the end, considering that 4k monitors are far from being affordable, I think we're still gonna run games at 1080p for quite some time.

Why do you even bring this up?
You feel you dont need to upgrade, so great dont upgrade. Going midrange card to midrange card is never viable, as you have to skip several generations before a performance gap is reached (7750 to a 380 for example).
You dont have to upgrade just because there is something better out there. I wont upgrade my 760 because it runs the games I want to play. There are games it wont, but I dont play them.
