Hi everyone. I am looking for a new router for my boss. He has a very basic small router connected upstairs in his house. And receives very weak signal on his TV's was hoping for a suggestion on something with good range.

Unfortunately it is probably not the router that is at fault so a change would do no good. The problem is wifi itself. You need to get the wired network closer to the TV and the best solution is to wire the TV with ethernet rather than rely on wifi.

The ways to do this include:

Moving the cable modem and router close to the TV. Then extend the wifi upstairs if needed.

Run an ethernet cable behind the walls from the router to the TV area. This takes some work, but the best solution and worth the expense of paying an installer for just works TV, IMO.

Use powerline networking with adapters at the router and the TV. This may or may not work but it is very easy to do and certainly worth a try because the adapters can be returned if they don't work for you.

A range extender may help. It is the most problematic of the options and will need to be located in an intermediate area between the router and TV. Again, buy with the idea of returning if it doesn't work for you.

Last, I could be wrong above and a new router might help. It is a simple matter to try a new one. I don't follow new gear but TP Link gets good reviews around here for value to performance.
