I have an msi 880GMA-e45 motherboard with the phenom 2 945 and 16GB (4x4) gskill ripjaws ddr 3 1600 ram and currently a msi gt 640 2gb graphics card. also have a 695watt power supply and I'm considering an crucial mx 200 250gb hard drive

my question is can I upgrade to a msi gtx 970 graphics card

Depending on the +12V specs of your PSU, yes. But that is way too much card for that CPU. You will have quite a bit of CPU bottleneck. You will not be able to get all the performance from the gfx card you paid for. Drop back to a GTX 950 or 960 max.

Yes, that would be fine. Again, depending on the make and model of that "695W" PSU. There are a lot of crappy PSUs out there that won't handle stressful situations.

The benefit of the i3 would be the fact that you can always upgrade to an i5 or i7 in the future. The AM3+ platform is a dead end with the FX-8/9xxx processors at the top.
Out of the box however, the FX-8350 would be superior to the FX-6300 and i3. And the i3 would be a slight bottleneck to the GTX 970.

Those games don't need the power of the GTX 970, so I'll leave that up to you... will you change your mind about the type of games you prefer in the future... only you can answer that.

A SSD is always preferable over a HDD. SSHD are sort of a hybrid. Personally, I don't like them.

Ideally, you'd want a SSD big enough to hold as much as your current HDD. Then you can just clone the HDD to the new SSD. Next best, is a SSD at least as big as the used portion of the HDD for cloning, and then using the HDD for stuff you add in the future. Last best would be a SSD of the size you can afford, but too small to do a clone. In that case, you'd have to do a clean install of Win and all your apps, dividing the apps up between the SSD and HDD.

Why would you want to run 2 x SSD on RAID 0? They won't be any faster. Unlike the small speed bump you sometimes get with 2 x HDD in RAID 0. And if you are instead looking to increase storage space by running 2 x SSDs in RAID 0, it would be cheaper just to get a larger single SSD.

Your board provides support for RAID 0 (Striping). I never heard about the Intel only issue w/SSDs you mention. I have used RAID 0 on AMD boards before , but only with HDDs. I can't think of any reason it wouldn't work with SSDs, since RAID is a function of the chipset. I guess you just have to try it since you already have the drives.
