Looking to upgrade my current system (i5 750, 2.67 GHz, 4GB RAM, standard VGA graphics) to a new gaming PC, which I hope will last for the next five years, in a budget roughly under $1000. So was fiddling around various sites and came up with the following configuration:

CPU: Core i5 4690k 3.5GHz, MSI Z97 GAMING 3 motherboard, G.SKILL 8GB X 2 DDR3 1600MHZ RAM, ZOTAC GeForce GTX 970 4GB graphics card, WD 1TB hard disk.

According to pcpartpicker, the current configuration will draw around 350W of power (though I believe it will be higher as I will be playing some high end games?)...so can someone suggest me which PSU should I be purchasing? I believe EVGA brand is not sold here (India) but someone suggested Corsair VS650 650 Watt PSU. Also my system is placed in a corner of my room which gets little ventilation..so I am thinking I will require a CPU cooler as well? (I had bought a AMD R9 video card for my current PC but 2 years later it experienced a problem and when I showed it to a service guy, he told me the card was gone and I needed to replace it...dont want a repeat of the same problem). I work from my PC and keep it switched on for 10-11 hours at a stretch. I often play games even as I work (FIFA, Total War etc) so I believe that my PC heats up due to being switched on for long periods of time.

Now according to the above configuration...I am already overbudget by around $50 and I still have to factor in the PSU, cabinet and cooler. I hope to sell off the current system for somewhere around $150 but even them I will be over the budget at the end...Can someone help me out in keeping the price down...say by suggesting an alternate AMD processor or the motherboard?

couple of quick things

1. no need for 16 GB, a gaming pc RAM utility maxes out at 8 GB
2. the difference between a non-oc and an oc is considerable here in india, and so is the cost of a motherboard that allows it; I would recommend a non-oc i5 (may be 4460) and a B85 from gigabyte/asrock; this immediately gives you around 10% cost savings without losing any performance; remember, games don't much benefit from oc and your ram is 1600 MHz anyway;
3. buy a decent (not extracagant) case, like the CM N series, or the COrsair Spec series or the Antec gaming series, around 3 - 4 k; add fans for high intake
look at this thread for some inputs;

4. for psu, the default 430 - 500 w is enough; go with something that is 80+ bronze certified, around 3 - 4 k

if you follow my suggestions, you will have funds left over to buy not only a good pc, but also some good peripherals like speakers, headsets, webcam and ups

good luck

Thanks for the reply. Was thinking about reducing the RAM as most of the gaming configurations specified just 8GB and your comment helped me decide it...
