I am about to build a new gaming rig and cant decide on the CPU.
Right now I have mainly been looking between the
i7-6700K 4GHz quad core for $410
and
I7-5820K 3.3Ghz 6 core for $380

Looking to make the rig mainly for high end gaming and OC'ing.

Open to Intel suggestions in the price range of $300 to $450
just trying to find the best cpu for the price range.

Leaning towards the 6700K right now.

6700K will be the better one for gaming and OC'ing. Should be able to push the speeds further, and it has higher single-core performance to boot. It also supports faster RAM and would, potentially, have a future upgrade path.

Of course, if you do any rendering or what have you, the 2 extra cores of the 5820 will come into play and push it out ahead.

Looking to upgrade from a I5 now
going for future tech over the older I5
Currently using a I5 4 core OC'ed to 5GHz/5.5GHz
Hyper threading on the that I7 would make it better as well.
It also supports higher RAM speeds then my current and if i could OC it even to 4 or 4.5ghz it would exceed my needs.
So why would I go with a I5?

yeah I figured this much
Is this CPU very OC friendly?

700-800 MHz and a stable system seems to be the norm on a good Z170 motherboard. One of the advantages of Skylake is its lower TDP, which does make for better overclocking potential.

Yeah it seems to be pretty good for OC'ing. Just did a bunch of research on it and saw a lot of people achieving 4.5ghz to 5ghz stable with them. So far the 6700k looks best for sure, especially for gaming over rendering
