PC too loud!

Hi guys,

My PC is currently housed in a Phanteks Enthoo Pro, however I'm finding the noise of the pc on idle to be too loud (when watching movies for instance). My specs are:

i5 2500k @ 4.2Ghz
GTX 780 SLI
MSI Z77 G45
CX750M (With replaced fan)
Seagate Barracuda 2TB
Samsung Evo 250GB
OEM H50
Corsair 120mm fans

Obviously with the SLI setup I need the ability to ramp up the fans during gaming. However when I'm just idling the system is far too audible for my liking.

I have replaced the fan on the CX750M with a Noctua fan, and my AIO watercooler has two SP120 Corsair fans. I also have two exhaust fans on the top, and two pushing in from the HDD cage, and a 200mm fan at the front of the intake. However all those fans are currently unplugged, as i cant manage the idle noise.

All the currently installed fans are currently installed via a Nzxt sentry mix 2.

Thus my question is essentially, is there any viable way to get my computer near silent during idle, yet still have the ability to cool effectively when gaming?

MSI's on board cooling options are abysmal, and the lowest settings on my fan controller aren't low enough for me.

Are there fan controllers that can turn off fans? Or are there adapters for fans to make them run quieter? Any suggestions at all?

Thanks, this is driving me crazy at the moment!

I empathize with you - my GPU is by far the loudest component of my system. You need to look for GPUs that automatically will turn their fans off if your system doesn't need them or if performance levels are low enough that they don't need to be on. I would also check your video card settings to see if you can control the GPU fan speeds.

Thanks for the responses,

After some investigating, I found that one of my 780's had a newer BIOS, and was able to reduce the fan speed to a cool 29%, this will help with noise should I be able to flash the other one as well.

I think maybe a new fan controller may be the solution? As it appears mine only goes down to 5W. Can anyone suggest one which would allow me to completely kill the fans off when not necessary?

Cheers.
