Hello fellas,

I am a new member to this webpage.

I built my pc like 3 weeks ago, everything was working fine, until i installed a few softwares one day.

Bitdefender 2016
x360ce
Twin PS to pc usb driver
CSR 4.0 bluetooth dongle driver

i wanted to play wirelessly with my DS3 and also i wanted to play gauntlet co-op with my GF. (she uses my old PS controller)

everything works like a charm but after an hour or so of gameplay, it starts freezing gradually, it begins with very short lags and in no time it gets so bad, it freezes and unfreezes with buzzing noises of looped sound rendering gameplay impossible because the controls get unresponsive, at this point i have to alt+f4 and reboot my pc so i can play ok for another hour.

i feel very frustrated because i put a lot of heart saving money and building this pc.

I have tried updating the drivers. disabling the antivirus, playing with my DS3 wired, running al those softwares in compatibility mode.
when i reboot i quickly open the bios to check temps, and everything is under 32c. So it seems to be an issue not related to temp.

I have windows 10 pro 64bits
Mobo Asus z170 pro gaming
i5 6600k
Crucial Ballistix 8gb ddr4
Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming Windforce 4gb
Sentey 850w Modular PSU
WD 1tb Black edition
Cooler Master Seldon 240m

Please help!

One of the four softwares you installed is probably the key to solving this issue, so a process of elimination is required.

You'll have to ascertain which one is the culprit by uninstalling one of them, then run your PC for a while to see if the problem remains. If problem remains, uninstall another of those four and try running your PC again.

When the problem is no longer occurring, the last software you removed is obviously the culprit.

Note: If you uninstall BitDefender and it includes a firewall, remember to enable Windows Firewall for continued protection.

Is the old controller wired? As in that's using a USB port on the pc itself via the ps-pc driver? If so, it's possible the motherboard chipset controlling the USB is overheating and causing the freeze issues. At shutdown/reboot, the chipset has time to cool off so will work again until current draw overheats it again. This will not show up in bios. Hwinfo64, hwmonitor or speccy might be able to pick it up, hard to say, depends on the addressing. Couple of things you could try, play solo without that controller plugged in, play dual but plug the controller in a totally different USB (not sharing with any other port, or a high power usb3 port if you have one). Might help.

Hello Phillip Corcoran,

Thank you for your response.
I thought about it, but i was avoiding it because to tell you the truth, i feel kinda lazy when it comes to uninstalling all that and searching other drivers that may work better. Anyway, it seems that it can't be avoided. So i will try that after giving Karadjgne's suggestion a try.

Thank you I will keep you posted.

Hello Karadjgne,

yes, the old playstation controller is wired, it is using a 3.0 usb port via a PS to PC converter.
This usb port is one of the usb ports found in the front of my case, so i will try swapping it to one in the back, those come integrated to the MoBo.
If this doesn't work i will try playing with that adapter unplugged, and also after uninstalling the its driver.

Thank you. I will keep you posted.
