Can't connect to the internet even though it says it's connected

I use a powerline to provide internet to my PC - http://www.amazon.co.uk/BT-Broadband-Extender-Passthrough-Powerline/dp/B00D84BYP0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1447092024&sr=8-2&keywords=bt+powerline (ones I use)

Been having this problem for a few days where the internet may work but only temporarily. I will go offline and I'd have to restart my powerline where it would work with hiccups before going offline again.

All other devices in the house work perfectly fine and I've tried swapping my powerline (one that goes into my PC) with a spare one with no luck - other devices in the house use the same powerline that's connected with the router so I don't think there's a problem there. I've also restarted the router multiple times but the problem just keeps occurring. When I launch programs like Origin or Uplay I cannot go online even if my web browser starts working. I've tried troubleshooting problems but it doesn't detect anything abnormal.

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

For troubleshooting I right clicked the connection icon (http://www.vraxx.com/image/Win7NetworkPitchfork.jpg if you don't know what I mean) and pressed Troubleshoot problems. The results say "The connection between your access point, router or cable modem and the internet is broken" (I'll also look more into this) - usually says "Couldn't identify problem"

As for admin right, correct me if I'm wrong, but I typed my default gateway into a URL. Unfortunately, the internet keeps either crashing or says "Operation has timed out". I tried to see what should come up on a different device and it worked OK but I will try to get that sorted.

"Pitchfork" - I like that.....

Anyway I believe the problem is physical, i.e., a broken "wire".

Possibly the ethernet wire on the source end (cable from router to the powerline adapter) or the ethernet cable from the powerline adapter on your end to your computer. Try swapping out the cables for known working cables of good quality. Maybe your kit has a bad cable but not a completely broken wire just loose. Intermittent connectivity results.

And it could be that one of the powerline adapters is going bad. May work for a few minutes and then due to temperature, vibrations, or something else that then makes it stop working. Could also just be some electrical issue on the host circuit. No surge protectors or extension cords - correct? They can cause problems.

What do the Data, Ethernet, and Power lights indicate?

I looked at the User Guide.

Here:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/BT-Broadband-Extender-Passthrough-Powerline/dp/B00D84BYP0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1447092024&sr=8-2&keywords=bt+powerline

The indicator lights provide some diagnostic functions that may be helpful.

Perhaps going through the setup/startup process from scratch will fix things or otherwise provide a clue to the problem.

Other devices do go through the powerline and still work perfectly

Then suspect link-length (power cable short run/long run), swap PowerLine modules, whether your particular PowerLine link is on a different PHASE of the power feed. Does PowerLine vendor supply diagnostic to tell you the QUALITY of the hookup?

If none of the above are issues, then I would temporarily hook up PC with a long CAT5 cable (always good to have a cable like that in the house) directly to the switch, to ascertain whether the prob is with the PC.

I tried swapping the powerline with a spare but the problem still occurred. Still possible for a wire to be broken though.

The lights all seem fine and are coming up the way they normally did.
I tried a clean boot and things seem to be normal now. Hope it stays this way.. Just a case of seeing the problem

Thanks a lot for your help. Glad its now working. Really appreciate you time and sorry I couldn't deal with it sooner.

If other devices using the same powerline connection, same cable, same everything except the device (being "my PC') work perfectly then I think I would look at the LAN port/LAN card on "my PC".

Ethernet connector could be bad, crack in the solder, loose LAN card (if not using the built-in).

Try another ethernet adapter. Maybe USB or PCI/PCIe slotted.
