Hello,

I work with contracts all day and I need three monitors to make my job a lot easier. I have a amd radeon 5570 video card. It has 1 x vga, 1 x dvi, and 1 x hdmi. I can successfully hook up two monitors, but not three. I am wondering if my card is able to handle 3 or if there I if there is anything additonal I need to do to make it work. I have tried all kinds of combinations in Ultramon (which I have) and amd catalyst. It just won't work.

If necessary I will buy another card (I need a low profile card, btw). I've been reading posts about this and I still can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Any help would be hugely appreciated. Thank you.

Zack

Yes this card will output to 3 monitors easily , but you need an active mini displayport to VGA/HDMI/DVI adapter

This adapter :

You can use 3 monitors with 5000 series or newer graphics cards , but you need a DisplayPort in your card , without it you can't do 3 monitors anyhow .

Since your card has no DisplayPort it can't output to 3 monitors ....

This video will explain everything to you :
http://support.amd.com/en-us/search/faq/154#

So you need a 5000 or newer card with at least 1 DisplayPort , also one of the monitors must be connected to that port , if no monitor has a DisplayPort , you will have to buy an ACTIVE display port to VGA/DVI/HDMI adapter to connect the 3rd monitor

This card fits your needs :

However price is very high for it's performance , due to it being a low profile card that supports 3 monitors .....
There are more powerful cards that support 3 monitors for cheaper price , but they are dual slot card and are not low profile cards .....

ZENprime, thank you for your answer. That explained everything. I do not have a monitor with display port, so I will have to buy the active display port to VGA/DVI/HDMI adapter. Just so I'm clear, I hook up:

Monitor 1 - HDMI port (on card)
Monitor 2 - DVI port (on card)
Monitor 3 - DisplayPort (on card)

...

I would then also need a DVI to Active Display Port adapater, like this?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA725...)

And also, just to be sure, this is the same card?

... Is all that above correct? Your help is awesome, thank you very much!

Thank you so much for your help. I'm going to pick up that Sapphire Radeon R7 250 then, and the adapter as well. I'm excited to get the 3 screens going!

funny thing about HD5570 is that three monitors work sort of "out of the box" with the default driver in Linux Mint.

for some reason the official driver does not support it.
