Hey guys... I've read a couple of threads here about CPU, GPU, etc., but I still couldn't made up my mind about choosing my pc. I have 2 options of already built sets and I was wondering if you could help me choosing one of them:

1) FX-6300 3,5 GHz / GA-78LMT-USB3 AM3+ / 8GB RAM DDR3 / Gigabyte Radeon R9 280 WindForce3 3GB / PSU 600W

2) I5 4440 3,1 GHz / H81M LGA 1150 / 8GB RAM DDR3 / EVGA GTX 960 SC 2GB / PSU 500W

The pc will be for gaming and random daily tasks (no video editing, just the regular stuff)... The 1st set (amd) is about $60 cheaper than the 2nd. My idea is to play new and upcoming games and, in the future (+4 years), get new hardware and improve it. But, for now, these 2 are the only options I have - non upgradable for now.

Would you guys help me and let me know what's the best option for me (including the cost/benefit)?

Sorry for any eventual grammar mistakes and thanks in advance for your help. :)

The R9 380 has about the same performance as the 960
And yes the difference in the processor is worth the extra 60 bucks.

My sons gaming PC is an AMD Phenom II Quad core with a big overclock to 4GHz. The PC is 7 years old. The processor is near to top spec for a machine of that era, but compared to modern machines it is roughly equivalent to a good Intel i3. It is still OK for gaming for another year or so.
This computer was upgraded when it was about 4 years old. I doubled the RAM to 8Gb of faster memory, put a new graphics card in it, and installed Windows 7.
The 8Gb of new RAM cost less than the original 4 GB I put in it. The new graphic card cost £130 I think, but was similar to the most powerful GPUs available when I first built the PC

Lessons learned.
The faster your processor, the longer your computer will last before it is overtaken by newer budget computers. That is why my new PC has a top spec i5.
It is much cheaper to buy "enough" memory and graphics when the computer is new, then upgrade them in a few years if and when you need to.

Passmark rates the nearest Phenom II to mine at 4600. Mine probably scores 4800 thanks to the overclock. That makes it the same as an i3, 4130..... but yes, a 4170 is probably a bit faster.
NB my Phenom has CL8 RAM overclocked to 1776MHz, which helps a bit....

Thanks for your answers and the time dedicated to it! I'm gonna go with the # 2, since both of you said, basically, the same thing (get the best processor).

Cheers!
