I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but i can not find it if it has been. I am also sorry if this is in the wrong category.

I have a Acer laptop that i bought near the beginning of 2015. It came with Windows 8.1, which i then upgraded to Windows 10 when the free upgrade thing was going on.

So here is my problem. My laptop came with a 500GB HDD, which as time went on has proven to be not enough. I wish to upgrade my HDD to 1TB. I already know how and what i need to buy, but i do not know if the OS will transfer onto the new HDD.

I have read on this site and others, that a computer that comes with an OS has a OEM version of that OS, and due to it being OEM is is locked to that computers MB. But, it is to my understanding that the OS is installed on the HDD, and if this is the case can i somehow transfer my OS to the new HDD as long as the MB remains the same?

Also, if im am able to transfer it will i be transferring Windows 8.1 or Windows 10?

What do you mean by "reactivate with Microsoft"? Does that mean i would have to call them, or what? Because, the comp came with Windows 8.1, then i got the free upgrade to 10.

Sorry i just am not good with OS's as i'm sure is very noticeable.

How would i reinstall it, my computer did not come with a Windows install CD, and i am unaware on how to make one? Or, will it auto install since its linked to the hardware? How would i reactivate it, would i use the product ID in the system panel?

Okay, thank you for you help. After reading that article this process isn't as difficult as i had originally thought. However, just to reassure myself, it is ok if i switch the HDD, as in me switching the HDD wont interfere with it re-activating?
