I realize this isn't an Apples to Apples question, but I am hoping there is an actual answer. Both of these current gen systems (presumably) are running all games at the equivalent of 1080p @ 60 fps. Assuming the majority of games I would be interested in playing are console ports to the PC, what would be roughly comparable specs in the PC world.
My monitor, that I am NOT planning on upgrading any time soon, caps at 1080p so I have no use for equipment that can run games at 4k on ultra settings (nor is that in my budget). I built my computer at the end of 2008 and it's still playing all the games I want on I'm pretty sure the highest settings. The games I have installed right now are things like Orcs Must Die 1/2, Skyrim, Civ 5, Rift, and Portal 2. I do own some games like BF3 and Medal of Honor, but I got them from Humble Bundles or something and have probably 10 hours tops between the two. If those games are on medium settings, so be it. I do plan on getting all future Lego games and any I do not current own on PC instead of Xbox 360.
The main thing here is trying to future proof myself. The only components that have been changed since 2008 are my video card (to an HD 7750 just prior to the next gen cards) and an SSD. I understand some parts just don't have a long life in the PC gaming world. I do know that Xbox One and PS4 will likely be around for quite some time still and I think I would be safe to use them as my minimum benchmarks.
What would be the safest equivalent to these current gen consoles as far as CPU, RAM, and GPU are concerned. I know some might consider it a crime against PC gaming to use one, but do any of the AMD APUs come close (I'm guessing the best shot would be the A10 something)? I would like to know as many equivalents as possible so I can then make the decision with my budget at the time and other specs. Perhaps I might also find it might be best to hold off on any upgrades at this time until prices come down or the AMD adds DDR4 to their APU line up...I realize there is likely an i5 or even i3 that is comparable, so yes, I would like to know that, too. And even the FX, Phenom, Athlon, etc.
Thanks!
